Talking About Your Job and Daily Work in German (A2)

At A2 level, learners want to talk about more than just their name or country.
A very important topic at this stage is work: your job, your daily tasks, and your routine at work.

This topic is especially useful if you:

  • work or want to work in a German-speaking country
  • need German for everyday conversations
  • are preparing for an A2 speaking or writing exam

In this post, you will learn how to talk about your job and daily work in German at A2 level, with simple explanations, useful vocabulary, and practice at the end.

1. Talking About Your Job in German (A2)

At A2 level, you can talk about your job using simple present tense.

Basic Sentence Structure

Ich arbeite als …

Examples:

  • Ich arbeite als Lehrer.

At A2 level, short sentences are clearer and sound more natural.

2. Talking About Daily Tasks at Work

You can describe what you do at work using simple verbs.

3. Talking About Your Work Routine

To talk about routines, A2 learners often use time expressions.

4. Talking About Problems and Stress at Work (A2)

At A2 level, you can also talk about simple problems at work.

  • Meine Arbeit ist stressig.
  • Ich bin müde, weil ich viel arbeite.

5. Talking About Your Job in a Simple Way (A2 Speaking)

These sentences are very useful for A2 speaking exams and everyday conversations:

  • Ich arbeite als …
  • Ich arbeite in …
  • Meine Arbeit ist …
  • Ich arbeite gern. / Ich arbeite nicht gern.

Example:

Ich arbeite als Verkäuferin.
Ich arbeite in einem Geschäft.
Meine Arbeit ist manchmal stressig, aber interessant.

6. Mini Dialogue: Work Situation (A2)

A: Was machst du beruflich?
B: Ich arbeite als Fahrer.
A: Wie ist deine Arbeit?
B: Sie ist stressig, aber okay.

This type of dialogue is typical for A2 exams.

7. Practice: Try It Yourself (A2)

Exercise 1: Complete the Sentences

  1. Ich arbeite ___ einer Firma.
  2. Ich schreibe ___ (emails).
  3. Meine Arbeit ist ___ (stressful).

Exercise 2: Write About Your Job

Write 4–5 simple sentences:

  • Was ist dein Job?
  • Wo arbeitest du?
  • Wie ist deine Arbeit?

Example:

Ich arbeite als Koch.
Ich arbeite in einem Restaurant.
Meine Arbeit ist anstrengend, aber interessant.

Exercise 3: Speaking Practice

Say these sentences aloud:
